Shalivahana was a commoner who became king, a rare event in ancient India. He grew up as a
poor widow's son, in a poor potter's family. A holy man is said to have foretold that he would be king one
day. As a youth Salivahana broke up the gangs that robbed traders' caravans. The people of what is now
Paithan on the bank of river Godavari made him king. Victories followed and he created a prosperous
kingdom with his successors forming the Satavahana dynasty. Shalivahana patronised popular dialects in
preference to the elites' language, Sanskrit. A celebrated collection of 700 verses in the popular
language has come down to us from Shalivahana's times. The Shalivahana era, also known as the Saka era, is
used with Hindu calendars and the Indian national calendar. Its year zero begins in 78 C.E. |

The site is very interesting. But, the method for recording suggestions is indeed very
very complex and unless one has an MCA degree, I don't think its possible to send in suggestions. Can't it

hi i'm Getta Sriharirao currently doing my Bachelor of commerce ...it was great to c the

best way to keep in touch with the latest happenings! The site covers various aspects abt andhra ...grt
research done!! i did go though this site for the 1st time 2day...i can't read the magazine coz its in
telugu ... but this is a nice way for people like me to get to know and contribute towards the community!
i guess more youngsters should come up and i'm there to contribute in my very own way by supporting the
cause! i was happy to c students being felicitated and its an amazing way of appreciating good work! if

Recently I have shown the portal maintained by you in the name of "Salivahana .com " to some of
our friends. Sri M.Narayana Rao, who is publishing the Salivahana monthly has also seen and
appreciated.Sri Narayana Rao is taking lot of pains in publishing the monthly with rich editorials and
other news and reports about salivahana stalvarts. It occured to me that some of the material published by
him including the editorials and matrimonial columns are worth displaying in the portal to enrich its
utility.If you are prepared to take some pains to incorporate the information on a month to month basis, I
will forward the scanned copies of the extracts of the useful information from the magazine through
e-mails to you for necessary action. Every month he is incorporating 10/15 matrimonial items which will be
